Michèle Jaffé-Pearce Paintings

Ebb and Flow Series: Using Abstraction and Abstract Expressionism these paintings on glass are explorations in intense colour, inspired by my joy in the natural world. I am also very influenced by an ancient Hebrew poem, 'Perek Shira’ (Song of Nature), one of the earliest works recognising the spiritual dimension of nature and the environment. I love the idea of a world, in which every element has its own ‘song’, from a blade of grass to the wind, the wings of a butterfly to the passing from day to night.

I paint with hot wax as it is very immediate and translucent, and I build up each image with four or five layers of glass. Each painting is framed and self-standing, so the light shines through.
